“Writing is thinking on paper,” says the famous writing teacher William Zinsser. This course will assert writing as the exciting moment of exploration, problem-solving, reflection and discovery all at once. Students will write in a workshop setting, discovering and refining an original thesis over the course of several drafts, with much help from peers.
In particular, this course guides students toward English research writing, and familiarize them with essential research skills. They will spend much time between the writing drafts, to obtain considerable practices in a wide range of learning targets, such as how to dialogue with others through texts, how to be creative while following academic protocols of communication, how to theorize his or her own writing practice in a given situation, how to unravel a thoughtful research process on paper, and how mechanisms of writing clarify intended meanings.
